Summary - Week 11 - I must obey my parents!

I must Obey my Parents.

We started off by reading the Darul Kitab Learn About Series 'Our Parents'.(if you have not yet entered the Darul Kitab Give Away please do now here Insha Allaah) We have read this many times and Maimoonah has almost memorized the book. smile. We learnt the meaning of obeying and discussed about being dutiful to our parents and the favours they do to us. And memorized the Aayah in Soorah Al Isra along with the dua.

Then we did the the wondeful min work book 'Be Good and Dutiful to your Parent'. Masha Allaah this was a huge help for me and Maimoonah just loved it.

Little story activities were great masha Allaah. When I was reading each story she had a smile on her face which told me she knew the characters well smile! At the end of one story where it says that Umm had to call three times for the child to do something, I said I think I know someone just like this in this house, she was like with a blush, Its Maimoonah Ummi!! But masha Allaah this book did lot of good. May Allaah reward sis Umm An Nu'man. She keeps in mind most of the time that she needs to obey at the first instance. I hope this would continue Insha Allaah!

She enjoyed the colouring, cutting and pasting too as usual.

Then we got these mini books from here and here. Nice early reading books. Maimoonah is able to read these books on her own masha Allaah.

Then we spoke about the things her Abi and Ummi do for her. Then we took two sheets of papers. I asked her to draw small circles using the shape.

And asked her to name some of the things that her Abi and Ummi do for her. She thought and thought and said and I wrote them inside each circle.

We also read this book 'A Children's Book about Disobedience'. Its illustrations are nice and we spoke about disobedience and also explained to her that disobeying is a sin and we went through the book and spoke about the contents. She likes to talk about 'Annie' who falls into trouble by disobeying her parents in this book.

We also did Luqman's Advice. All those activities could be found here Insha Allah.

Asmaaul Husna

We learnt 'Ash Shaakir and Ash Shakoor'

Aqeedah

Continuing with the meaning of the shahaadah along with Usooluth Thalaathah. Insha Allaah we will start doing the Aqeedah Activities put out by sis Umm An Nu'man from next week.

Language, Reading and Writing.

We learnt some verbs and learnt to read them too.

She traced these..

Arabic

We have finally started the Arabic Alphabet book using sis Umm An Nu'man's Post Cards
The Iqra book that I use for her reading deals with fatha first. Maimoonah is bored doing only fatha for such a long time and thus looses interest in reading. So I came up with this idea bi idhnillaah.

Pasted the post card on a book. She did the pasting and colouring. I wrote and taught her the three forms fatha, kasra and dhamma. She caught it soon. Then she read the Iqra book (the letters pasted and learnt). Now masha Allaah she is able to take some interest and read. Also she traces the letters on the other side of the page. We did alif and ba for this week.

Maths

We did Chapter 22 and 23 on MEP maths. Continuing with learning to count upto 6, visiting the Grand Parents, and introduction to addition. This chapter has an activity where you ask the child to draw a number of vertical lines, circles, horizontol lines, and etc etc. This is very good in my opinion that makes the child to concentrate and listen to you and draw accordingly. Maimoonah usually does well in this and likes this kind of learning. You can see her working here.

She did these worksheets too.

Montessori Activities

Ironing, Folding and Arranging the Cupboard

Maimoonah got a play iron from the Early Learning Centre and she was so thrilled about it. It makes the steam sound and has the light blinking too. So she wanted to iron all her clothes. I had to arrange her cupoboard as well as it was a long over due. So we took out all her clothes. Sorted them out and seperated the worn out ones. And taught her to iron her clothes.

Then we folded and arranged her cupboard.

That's it for week 11 Insha Allaah.

Alaikum salaam warahmathullaah ya Akhawaat

Yes sis Umm Suhaylah it is generally for a week, sometimes we take few days extra due to taking few days off during that week according to our moods, lol. Yes I did post a time table, you can view that under the label Time Table. That is just a schedule but not followed to the dot. Well how do I plan the day? actually I plan the week because that is more practical with pre preschoolers. Each day is different. Some days we only do maths. Some days Maimoonah will want to do only the mini work book. Some days only reading. Some days we will be full energetic to do maths, reading and worksheets. Some days we just cannot do anything so we do things on our own. Maimoonah would play and I would do my house work. So this is how things get done in a week and this is less stressful for me too. But I make sure all the activities planned are completed by that week. Masha Allaah great blessing of homeschooling.

Sis Umm Nu'man Jazzakillaah Khayr! I am sure you would like the book "Our Parents". hey I do not see your comment on the Give Away??? Hope you would participate too Insha Allaah!

mashaAllah!
Very good and useful materials alhamdulillah, Maimoonah seems she enjoyed and learned a lot during the whole week.
Ibrahim used to get bored reading the Iqra book too long time ago, then I started making separate worksheets just like you did (with kasra, damma and fatha). But Sarah likes the book just at it is, she can read it over and over again : )
Keep up the good work biiznillah.

Alaikum salaam sis Umm An Nu'man. Hmm I see you entered now masha Allaah and thanks for linking up on your blog too.

Jazzakillaah Khayr sis Umm Sara. Yes indeed she enjoyed everything. Sweet little sara may Allaah bless her. Ibraheem seems very much like Maimoonah. Masha Allaah! Each child is different in their own ways and best thing for us to do is to cater accordingly by the grace of Allaah, isn't it?

Assalaamu alaikum,

Masha Allah, great job both of you. I have been following your blog for some time now and Im very impressed and inspired by you and your daughter, tabaraka Allah wa jazak Allah khairan.
I want to ask you, because I have a bit trouble motivating my two toddlers for the tracing part of the curriculum these days.. Should I try getting back to it later or do you have a good motivation/variation suggestion sister?

Alaikum salaam sis Umm Adam,

Wa Iyaaki and jazzakillaah Khayr for the kind comments.

How old are your toddlers? If they are less that 4 please do not make them trace if they are not interested. Even if they are 5 I think its best to leave it if they do not show interest. Rather concentrate on things they like to do. Tracing and writing need control of pencil and this takes time for kids to master and you should never force. Each child is different. I feel Maimoonah is backward in writing as I know some kids write very well at her age. But I do not want to force on her. I let her take her time. Instead she likes to find answers for problems. example she likes to count and write or trace the correct number. So I let her do those worksheets. So please identify what your kids like and cater according to that.

I am telling you sis if they are less that 5 please do not bother too much. Just do lots of talking and play and crafts Insha Allaah. They will learn alot.

Hope this helps Insha Allaah!

Assalaamu alaikum,

Jazak Allah khair for your reply. They are 4 and 2,5 But actually they both write/control pencil well so when we started the curriculum I imagined they would really like tracing, especially the older one, but he gets bored with it so quickly.. As you say, forcing is not an option of course. They also likes worksheets so I guess we just pause the tracing for a while and try again later insha Allah.

Alaikum salaam sis Umm Adam,

Masha Allaah! Great to know they are doing well with pencil. Oh its the same here sis. Maimoonah is getting a bit bored here too. She was so enthusiastic as we started tracing but now it has dropped a bit. So I guess we need to leave it and carry on with other things and worksheets are indeed a great motivator I guess.

May be we should find some other interesting innovative ways and means for writing and tracing Insha Allaah. If you do come across please let me know Insha Allaah!
